Oleh Petrovych Hereta (3 June 1940, Skomorokhy village, Ternopil region - 28 September 2014, Ivano-Frankivsk) was a Ukrainian musician and public figure. Honoured Artist of Ukraine. Son of Petro Hereta, brother of Ihor Hereta, nephew of Volodymyr Hereta.
Biography.
Since 1943, he lived in Velyka Berezovytsia village (now a town), Ternopil district. He graduated from Ternopil School No. 8 (1957) and the Krushelnytska Music College (1963); Lviv Conservatory (1968, now the Music Academy).
Participant of the human rights movement of the 1960s, for which he was persecuted. Since 1968, he has been teaching at the Ivano-Frankivsk Music College, and since 1977, he has been the head of the stringed instruments department. He performs in instrumental ensembles and as a soloist.
Since 1995, he has been the artistic director of the Ivano-Frankivsk Chamber Orchestra "Harmonia Nobile". He organised the orchestra's tours to European countries and established creative ties with the diaspora in Hungary and Poland.
He was one of the founders of the Ukrainian Language Society (now the Taras Shevchenko Prosvita Society) and the National Union of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk region. He gave concerts in Ternopil region (1997, 2003).
