Petro Stepanovych Deshynskyi (born January 1, 1850 - died July 5, 1915, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian choral conductor, composer, and music theorist.
He was born on December 20, 1849 [January 1, 1850][1] in the family of Stepan Vasylovych Deshynskyi, a priest of the Intercession Church in the village of Novi Petrivtsi. In 1867 he graduated from the Kyiv-Podilsk Theological School. He worked as a teacher of choral singing in Bohuslav. From 1913 he taught at the psalmist courses at the Kyiv Theological Academy and led the choir of St. Borys Hlibskyi Church in Podil, Kyiv. He died in Kyiv on June 22 [July 5], 1915.
Creative work
He collected, recorded, and composed religious chants. He is the author of the manual "A Short Practical Guide to Voice Training, Means of Preserving It from Damage, and a Key to Practical Singing of Any Play" (1897).
