Thomas Hartmann (September 21, 1885, Khoruzhivka (Poltava province) - March 28, 1956, New York) was a Ukrainian composer and pianist known in the world as Thomas de Hartmann. He was a friend and follower of the philosopher and mystic George Gurdjieff.
Thomas Hartmann was born in the village of Khoruzhivka (then Khoruzhivka Volost, Romny district, Poltava province, now in Nedryhailiv district, Sumy region).[1] At the age of 18 he graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1907, together with Sergei Diaghilev, he staged the ballet The Red Flower. He was friends with Vasily Kandinsky and wrote articles for the German avant-garde publication Blue Rider. From 1921 he lived and taught in Paris, and in 1950 he moved to the United States.
