Fisherman Boris Mikhailovich

1938-2023

Borys Mykhailovych Fisherman (14 October 1938, Zhytomyr - 25 January 2023) was a Ukrainian clarinetist, teacher, conductor, Honoured Artist of Ukraine.

Biography.
Borys Fisherman was born in Zhytomyr. In 1958, he graduated from the Zhytomyr Music College (teacher V.T. Sukhomlynov), and in 1968 - from the Kazan Conservatory. In 1968-1974 he was a soloist of the Omsk Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, in 1974-1985 he was a teacher at the Zhytomyr Cultural and Educational School, and from 1985 to 2004 he was a teacher at the Zhytomyr Music School and a conductor of the brass band. Among Borys Mykhailovych's students there are many talented performers and teachers, namely: the winner of the international competition of wind instruments performers Su Svintsytskyi (Donetsk, 1999) - the chief conductor of the variety and symphony orchestra of the Kyiv Philharmonic; V. Hornostai - soloist of the Kyiv State Orchestra, winner of the republican competition (Odesa, 1989); P. Vinnytskyi - concertmaster of the Kyiv State Orchestra, winner of the republican competition (Odesa, 1989). ); P. Vinitsky - concert clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (USA); Y. Hrynakh - soloist of the Presidential Orchestra (Kyiv); M. Pokrapyvnyi - director of the Zhytomyr School of Culture; B. Fridman - graduate of the Latvian Conservatory; V. Shlyafman - graduate of the Gnesin Institute (Moscow); Y. Turchynsky - teacher and conductor of the orchestra (Israel) and others. The brass band under the direction of Borys Fisherman twice (1991 and 1992) received the highest awards in brass band competitions in Rivne, and in 1996 it won the 2nd prize at the international competition "Golden Trumpets" (Rivne). Since 2004, he has been living in Nuremberg.
