Felenchak Vasyl Andriyovych

1947-2022

Ukrainian musician, conductor, founder and artistic director of the Galician Municipal Chamber Orchestra. People's Artist of Ukraine (2016).

Biography.

Vasyl Felenchak was born on March 20, 1947 in the village of Nahiryantsi, now the Nahiryantsi community of Chortkiv district, Ternopil region, Ukraine.

He graduated from the Ternopil Music College (1971) and the Tajik Institute of Arts (1977, Dushanbe, now Tajikistan). In Tomsk (now the Russian Federation): artist of the Regional Philharmonic (1972-1977), conductor of the Symphony Orchestra (1979-1986), where he collaborated with famous performers - V. Krainev, I. Oistrakh, V. Spivakov and others. In 1977-1979, he took an internship at the courses of opera and symphony conducting under the direction of Academician A. Katz in Novosibirsk (now the Russian Federation).

Since 1986 he has been a lecturer at the Ternopil Pedagogical Institute, where he organized a piano trio, string quartet, violin ensemble, and chamber orchestra. Since 1991 he has been the founder, artistic director and conductor of the Galician Chamber Orchestra (since 2002).

Author of musical compositions, orchestral arrangements, instrumentation, curricula, methodological recommendations on musical disciplines.

People's Artist of Ukraine (2016),
Person of the Year (Ternopil region, 2017),
Ternopil Regional Solomiya Krushelnytska Award (2017).

On August 28, 2021, Vasyl Felenchak's star was unveiled on the Ternopil Avenue of Stars.
