Dubyna Anatolii Stepanovych

1952-2011

Anatolii Stepanovych Dubyna (1952-2011) was a Ukrainian accordionist, conductor and teacher, Honoured Artist of Ukraine (1996), Professor (2002).

Biography
Born in 1952 in Melitopol, in 1971 he graduated from the Glier Kyiv Music College (class of Ivan Zhuromskyi). In 1975, he graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory (class of Mykola Davydov, bayan, conducting - M. Shelest, opera and symphony conducting - Roman Kofman).

In 1976-1988, he was the conductor of the Orchestra of Folk Instruments of the State Ukrainian Folk Choir named after H. Veriovka.

Since 1988, he has been working at the National Music Academy of Ukraine; since 2002, he has been a professor of the Department of Folk Instruments and the head of the Folk Instrument Orchestra. At the same time, since 1999, he has been the chief conductor and arranger of the Ukrainian Folklore and Ethnographic Ensemble "Kalyna" of the Main Department of Culture and Arts of Kyiv.

He is the author of a series of concert programmes for choir and orchestra, including:

a cycle of 90 arrangements of folk melodies,
concert fantasy "Baida" by Hnat Khotkevych,
oratorio "Golden Gate" by I. Ivashchenko,
opera "Fern Blossom" by Yevhen Stankovych,
the cycle "Songs of the World's Peoples" (recorded on a disc and awarded the Golden Disc Prize).
A collection of song arrangements "Nina Matvienko Sings" was published. As a composer, he has created more than 100 scores for orchestra based on world classics. His works have been recorded on the Ukrainian Radio and on CDs.
