Drugalev Valery Volodymyrovych

1963-2016

Kherson composer, folklorist, Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine, collector of thousands of samples of the folklore heritage of Kherson region. He has compiled several dozen repertoire selections from the Song Folklore of Kherson Region cycle, published folklore and ethnographic books Three Wide Roads Converge and Our Kherson Region Is Playing Wedding.

Biography

Valerii Druhalov was born on September 24, 1963 in Kherson, studied at a secondary school (1971-1981), graduated from Music School No. 1, piano class.

In 1984, he entered the Kherson Cultural and Educational School, majoring in "Head of an amateur choir" - class of the teacher, Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine Mykhailo Vargun.

In 1987, he entered the Kyiv State Institute of Culture named after O. Korniichuk, specializing in "Club worker of the highest qualification, head of a choir" - class of teacher, candidate of pedagogical sciences, professor Anatolii Karpun.

He died on December 4, 2016 in Kherson.
Activities.

Since 1981, he worked as a mechanic at the Kherson Electric Machine Building Plant. After graduating with honors in 1986, he was appointed the head of the folk amateur ensemble "Doyarochka" of the Mykhailivske Village Hall in Skadovsk district, Kherson region.
While studying at the institute, he began researching in the field of folklore under the guidance of Doctor of Science, Professor A. Ivanytskyi, and participated in the work of the Dnipro Folk Academic Choir of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv as a singer and assistant artistic director.
After graduating from the institute in 1991, he was appointed to the position of leading methodologist in folklore at the Kherson Regional Center for Folk Art.
Since 1994, he has directed the folk amateur choir of veterans of the General Zhyrnov City Veterans Club "Patriot of the Fatherland" and the Regional Palace of Culture.
From 2003 to 2007, he worked as a teacher of conducting and choral disciplines at the Kherson School of Culture.

Creative work.

While working at the Regional Center of Folk Art, he conducted expeditionary work on recording the folklore of Kherson region. During the period of his work, he conducted 42 folklore and ethnographic expeditions, in which he recorded 3000 song samples, of which he deciphered more than 500. Valerii Volodymyrovych is the author and compiler of popular science collections: "History, Development and Current State of Song Culture and Rituals of Holoprystan Region" (2001) and "Three Wide Roads Converge" (Song Folklore of Kherson Region) (2007). In addition, he has prepared 13 CDs with recordings of Kherson region folklore.

Since 1994, he has been writing vocal and choral works, arrangements, arrangements, and harmonizations of folk songs. His works are published in collections and individual editions. They are performed by amateur and professional performers, choirs of Kherson region and Ukraine.

Awards
He was awarded the medal of the All-Ukrainian Society "Enlightenment" named after Taras Shevchenko "Builder of Ukraine", numerous letters of thanks, diplomas, and certificates. In 2009, he was awarded the title "Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine".
