Artist (vocalist, baritone), teacher, cultural and public figure, People's Artist of Ukraine.

Biography

Ivan Mykhailovych Derda was born on May 28, 1963 in the village of Horoshivtsi, Zastavniv district, Chernivtsi region.

After completing compulsory secondary and seven-year music schools, he studied at the Chernivtsi School of Culture, where he received his first singing lessons from teacher Svyatoslav Melnychuk. During his military service, he toured Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia as a singer with the army song and dance ensemble (1981-1982).

He began his professional artistic activity in 1983¸ studying at the preparatory department of the vocal faculty of the Lviv State Conservatory and at the same time working as a mimance artist of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater named after S. Krushelnytska (at that time the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater named after I. Franko).

In 1985, he entered the Lviv Conservatory and continued to work at the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater.
His teachers at the conservatory were: in the class of opera singing - People's Artist of Ukraine, professor Ihor Kushpler, and in the class of chamber singing - professor Myroslava Lagoida.
In 1990, after graduating from the Lviv State Conservatory named after M. V. Lysenko, returns to Bukovyna and begins work as a leading soloist of the State Honored Bukovyna Song and Dance Ensemble under the direction of the laureate of the National Prize named after T. Shevchenko, People's Artist of Ukraine Andriy Kushnirenko, giving stage life to many works that the maestro set to music.

In 1995, he became the leading soloist of the Chernivtsi Regional Philharmonic, where he continues to work even now.
In 2002, Ivan Derda was invited, in parallel with his concert activities, to work as an assistant at the music department of the Faculty of Pedagogy, Psychology and Social Work of the Yuriy Fedkovich Chernivtsi National University, and since 2005 he has been an associate professor of the music department, teaching courses in pedagogical mastery and vocals.
In 2008, he was awarded the academic title of associate professor, and from 2021, Ivan Derda was awarded the academic title of professor of the Department of Music of the Yuri Fedkovich Chernivtsi National University.
The author's series of the artist "Bukovynia bouquet" (here he performed as a composer, the author of solo songs based on the words of Bukovynia poets of the 19th and 20th centuries) won an award at the nationwide competition "Ukrainian language - the language of unity" - awarded with a first degree diploma (Odesa, 2009) .).
For significant achievements in the development of culture and art of the region, development and strengthening of the Ukrainian state, he was awarded the "Builder of Ukraine" medal and other awards.
Ivan Derda is a member of the National All-Ukrainian Music Union (since 1992).
In 2019, the name of Ivan Derda was entered into the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine (ESU) for his significant contribution to the cause of Ukrainian national revival.
Since 1997, Ivan Mykhailovych Derda is an Honored Artist of Ukraine.

Creative activity
Concert activity

Ivan Derda gave creative wings to many new works.
In particular, he became the first performer of the cantata "I pray for you, Ukraine" (for soloist, choir and symphony orchestra), which became a kind of business card of Bukovyna, "Thoughts about Sagaidachny" (for soloist, choir and orchestra), dedicated to the Battle of Khotyn in 1621, the premiere of which took place during the opening of the monument to Hetman Sagaidachny on the territory of the glorious Khotyn Fortress (both named works by the composer Andriy Mykolaivych Kushnirenko)(1991).
About 100 thematic concert programs are active in Ivan Derda's concert activity.
He performed almost 1,500 creative performances, a good third of them on charitable grounds.
The singer is a welcome guest of workers of industrial enterprises, rural workers, intelligentsia, students and apprentices.
The singer created and participated in many concert programs devoted to the revival of the names of famous Ukrainian artists from oblivion: Maksymilian Maksakov, Solomiya Krushelnytska, Lidia Lipkovska, Orest and Denys Rusnakiv, and others.

Pedagogical activity

Ivan Mykhailovych Derda, in addition to giving lectures to students and conducting practical classes, pays constant attention to the preparation of educational materials, develops and publishes a number of manuals under the general name "Bukovinskaya bouquet" to increase the efficiency of the educational process.
The manuals have received a recommendation (vulture) from the Ministry of Education of Ukraine for use.
Recently, a vocal cycle (manual) based on Dmytro Pavlychko's poem "Through the Ages" has been prepared for release.
