Demenko Boris

1941

Borys Demenko (born 20 April 1941, Lviv) is a pianist, musicologist, teacher, Doctor of Arts (1997). Professor (2000). Member of the NSCU (1991). Chairman of the Board of the Music Foundation of Ukraine (1994-96).

He studied at the Kyiv Conservatory (piano class of V. Nielsen, V. Topilin, V. Vorobyov, A. Lysenko, 1960-65), postgraduate studies at the Moscow Gnesin Music and Pedagogical Institute (headed by Y. Rags, 1975-79), and completed his doctoral studies at the Moscow Institute of Music and Education (scientific adviser O. Kostiuk, 1993-96). As a pianist, Demenko is a representative of the "style of analytical expressionism" (V. Silvestrov), he has performed all the works for piano by B. Liatoshynskyi, the first performer of certain works for piano by B. Buievskyi, V. Hodziatskyi, L. Hrabovskyi, V. Huba, V. Zahortsev, Y. Ishchenko, V. Silvestrov, P. Solovkin, Y. Stankovych, V. Filipenko, L. Pipkov, and others. He has recordings on Ukrainian radio.

He took part in the film "From the paths to the wide road" (dedicated to the 150th anniversary of M. Lysenko's birth, directed by Y. Suyarko); "B. M. Liatoshynskyi (on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth, directed by V. Skvortsov).

Lecturer at the Kharkiv Institute of Arts (1965), Kyiv Pedagogical Institute (1967-1970), Kyiv Institute of Culture (since 1970). 1994-1997 - Head of the Department of Artistic and Aesthetic Problems of Culture of the Research Centre of the Institute of Culture. Since 1998 - Professor of the Piano Department, since 2001 - Professor of the Department of Music Theory and Music Education. He recorded L. Pipkov's cycle "Spring Motifs", sixteen metrical pieces, Op. 78, for the Ukrainian Radio.
