Serhiy Volodymyrovych Cherniak (19 June 1973, Kremenets, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian conductor.

Biography.

Serhiy Cherniak has been conductor of the Academic Chamber Orchestra of the Rivne Regional Philharmonic since December 2016.
Serhiy Cherniak was born on 19 June 1973 in Kremenets, Ternopil region.

In 1980-1988 he studied at the secondary school No. 1 in Kremenets. Kremenets. From 1984 to 1988, he also studied at the Kremenets School of Arts named after M. Verikivskyi, studying French horn. He became a laureate of the youth competitions "Creativity of the Young".

In 1988-1992, he studied at the Solomiya Krushelnytska Ternopil Regional State Music College, Department of Wind and Percussion Instruments, French horn class, teacher - B. Protsak. During these years, he also worked as an artist of the municipal brass band "Galician Trumpets".

In 1992-1997, he studied at the Lysenko Higher Music Institute in Lviv at the Department of Opera and Symphony Conducting in the class of Professor Yurii Luciv and Associate Professor Z. Ostafiichuk.

While studying at the university in 1995-1997, he worked as an artistic director and conductor of the student symphony orchestra of the Lviv Specialised Music Boarding School, as well as a conductor and prompter of the Lysenko Opera Studio of the Lviv State Music Academy. For his academic success, he was awarded a scholarship by the Lviv Regional Council as the best student of the faculty (named after M. Kolessa).

After graduating from the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy, he did an internship at the National Opera of Ukraine under the direction of Ivan Hamkal. During his internship, he worked as a prompter for the opera company of the theatre, as well as a lecturer at the R. M. Glier Kyiv State Higher Music School, concertmaster of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, and chief administrator of the Khreshchatyk Municipal Chamber Choir.

In 2001, he was invited to the position of artistic director and conductor of the chamber orchestra of the Ternopil Regional Philharmonic.

From 2001 to 2008, he worked as a teacher and conductor of the student symphony orchestra of the Ternopil Music School and as an artistic director and conductor of the student chamber orchestra of the Institute of Culture and Arts of Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University.

From 2008 to 2014, he was the conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Luhansk Regional Philharmonic and the artistic director and chief conductor of the Opera Studio of the Institute of Culture and Arts of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, as well as a teacher and conductor of the student pops and symphony orchestra of the above-mentioned university.

In 2014-2015, he was the artistic director and chief conductor of the chamber orchestra of the Ternopil Regional Philharmonic. In 2015-2017 - Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Academic Chamber Orchestra of the Rivne Regional Philharmonic}}.

In June 2017, he won the competition for the position of Chief Conductor of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Philharmonic.
