Chaikovska Maria Konstantinovna

Maria Konstantinovna Tchaikovska (3 April 1945, Lviv) is a Ukrainian-Russian cellist and music educator, professor and head of the cello and double bass department at the Moscow Conservatory, associate professor at the Kyiv Conservatory, People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2006), Honoured Artist of Ukraine (1969).
Biography.
Maria Tchaikovska was born in 1945 into a musical family in Lviv. She began her music studies at the Lviv Krushelnytska Music School in the class of the famous teacher E. Spitzer. In 1968, Tchaikovska graduated from the Moscow Conservatoire, and in 1971 she completed her assistantship with Mstislav Rostropovich. During her studies, she became a laureate of the All-Union Competition in Moscow and the International Competition in Budapest, and received a diploma from the Tchaikovsky International Competition.

From 1968 to 1979, Maria Tchaikovska taught at the Kyiv Conservatory. In 1979, she became an associate professor and then a professor at the Moscow Conservatoire in 1992. Since 2002, she has been the head of the cello and double bass department. Among Tchaikovskaya's students are several international competition winners. She regularly gives concerts and masterclasses around the world and is a member of the jury of numerous international competitions. In 2006, Maria Tchaikovskaya was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation.
