Valerii Hryhorovych Buimister (21 May 1948, Vyborg, Russia - 12 November 2021, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian singer (lyric baritone), People's Artist of Ukraine (1994).
Winner of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize of Ukraine (1999). Grand Prix winner of the International Vocal Competition in Paris (1976).
Biography.
In 1966, he graduated from Ichnia Secondary School No. 1.
Graduated from the Kyiv Music College and Kyiv Conservatory (1975) in the class of Professor D. Yevtushenko.
In 1969 - 1971, he was a soloist of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Kyiv Military District (now the Ensemble of the Armed Forces of Ukraine).
In 1971 - 1973 - soloist of the Opera Studio at the Kyiv Conservatory, in 1973 - 1974 - soloist of the B. Lyatoshynskyi Choir (Kyiv), in 1974 - 1976 - of the Choir of the Ukrainian Radio and Television.
Since 1976 - soloist (baritone) of the Kyiv Philharmonic.
Since 1995, he has been a lecturer at the National Music Academy of Ukraine (at the Department of Solo Singing, since 2000 - Associate Professor).
Valeriy Buymystry's voice can be heard on three discs ("Melody") and radio recordings. Two films were also made about him (Ukrtelefilm): "Stanzas" (1987), "Valerii Buymyster Sings" (1991).
Music.
The repertoire of Valeriy Buymyster includes opera roles: Mykola ("Natalka Poltavka"), Onegin ("Eugene Onegin"), Robert ("Iolanta"), Germont ("La Traviata"), Gregoire ("The Falcon"); as well as chamber repertoire, which includes not only world and Ukrainian classics, but also works by contemporary Ukrainian composers (Yevhen Stankovych, Yuriy Laniuk, Oleh Kyva, Volodymyr Shumeiko, Volodymyr Runchak and others). The geography of his performances includes the USA, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand.
