Pylyp Yosypovych Bryl (July 19, 1927, Bila Tserkva, Kyiv Oblast - September 19, 1988, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian jazz pianist, arranger, and composer.
He was born on July 19, 1927 in Bila Tserkva. In 1954, he graduated from the historical and theoretical department of the R. M. Glier Kyiv Music School.
He has performed with various jazz orchestras and jazz ensembles, as a leader and pianist, including the Philip Brill Ensemble (1958, Volodymyr Pshenychnykov - trumpet, Mykola Bezgudov - trombone, Hryhoriy Tashlyk - alto saxophone, Yevhen Morozov - percussion instruments, Pylyp Bryl - piano, Leonid Zaiderman - double bass, Volodymyr Dunayev - guitar, Mykola Khomovsky - accordion), Pylyp Bryl Quartet (1967, Pylyp Bryl - piano; Stanislav Kolesnyk - guitar; Yuriy Silkin - double bass; Z. Zaliakin - drums).
He worked as a pianist in the Ukrainian Republican Variety Orchestra (1955-1959) and in Ukrconcert (1959-1986). Pianist of the Variety Orchestra of the Ukrainian Republican Variety under the direction of Yevhen Zubtsov (1956-1957). In 1958, he became a music director and pianist of the variety orchestra of the Club of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR (artistic director - Mykhailo Medko). In 1968-1970, he was the artistic director of Ukrconcert.
Over the years, he performed as an accompanist with singers (M. Shchukin, Y. Huliayev, K. Ognev, E. Miroshnychenko, A. Mokrenko, V. Honcharov, S. Rotaru, P. Topchiy), with artists of the conversational genre (R. Borysiuk, V. Safonov, K. Yanytskyi). He gave concerts in the cities of Ukraine and the USSR.
Recorded for Ukrainian radio and television. He composed music for documentaries and animated films (The Secret of the Black King (1964), Columbus Comes ashore (1967), The Man Who Could Fly (1968), etc.)
He passed away on September 19, 1988. He was buried at the Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv.
