Ukrainian screenwriter, advertiser, essayist, songwriter, librettist, musicologist, author of the concept and term "musicology". The son of the prominent Ukrainian poet, publicist, and public figure Volodymyr Brovchenko and the teacher of Ukrainian and Russian languages and literatures Lesia Brovchenko.
Father of film director Oleksandra Brovchenko and journalist Anna Brovchenko.
Biography.
Graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a degree in television journalism (1976). He worked at Ukrainian Television (1976-1990) as the head of the production department of the Main Editorial Office of literary and dramatic programs, wrote songs (music and lyrics) and scripts for television performances and entertainment programs - "Town Stories", "Carefully Prepared Improvisation", "Shchedryk-Vedryk", "Vsesmih".
In 1987 he became a member of the Union of Theater Workers of Ukraine.
Mykola Brovchenko, together with Yevhen Solntsev, are co-authors of the play "I'm Sorry..." (based on the works of Mikhail Zoshchenko).
He taught author's courses in screenwriting and creativity in advertising at the Kyiv International University and the Karpenko-Kary Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.
In 1990-1994, he was an art editor of the Indo-Europe magazine.
In 1994-1995, he worked as a bild-editor and author of essays for the newspaper Rus Kyivska.
Since 1995, he has been working in professional advertising, heading creative departments of international agencies in Ukraine - BBDO, McCann, Publicis, FSB MA, Cheil. He participated in the first election campaign of independent Ukraine "Youth Goes to Vote" (1994).
In 2005, he created the musical "About the Light, or Melody of Hope" in collaboration with composer and arranger Anatoliy Karpenko. This is a performance, the events of which are depicted in two time dimensions - in the 18th and 21st centuries. The setting is the slopes and descents of Kyiv's Podil district, where the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is now located. The musical's song numbers and instrumental tracks for the choreographic numbers were recorded by professional opera performers - 14 tracks in total.
He is a scriptwriter for many public events, including the opening of the reconstructed Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kyiv, several send-off ceremonies for Paralympic Games participants, etc.
Participated as a mentor in the RIZNA social project "RIZNA Career & Motivational Talk".

Author of the libretto and lyrics of the media musical of the new enlightenment era "JAZZYCHNIK" [Archived August 5, 2020, at the Wayback Machine] (composer and arranger Alex Fokin). This project combines social and artistic components - through Music and Word to convey to new generations the incomparable beauty of the creations of the past - the timeless pearls of world Jazz, which should be heard and felt as the pulse of the present by all modern people who care. The musical accompaniment is provided by the Oleksandr Fokin Radio Band.
Original librettos and translations into Ukrainian of classical opera works are also in the author's creative work. He created a new version of Johann Strauss's operetta "The Bat" ("Kazhan") and an adaptation of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's one-act opera "The Maidservant" for the Odesa Opera, a new literary version of Semen Hulak-Artemovsky's opera "Cossack Beyond the Danube" for the Lviv Opera. Based on his libretto, the National Opera will stage Yuriy Shevchenko's children's opera Puss in Boots in 2023. The Odesa Opera is preparing the premiere of the children's ballet Thumbelina (composed by Yurii Shevchenko) in the 2023 season.
Musicology
The author of the concept and term "musicology" - a direction or branch of human artistic activity, any musical and verbal creativity in which the sound and performance components are closely related to the verbal. This is a cultural phenomenon that more accurately positions the existence of the Song phenomenon as a unique invention of mankind.
The organizer and lecturer of an open dialogue-conversation in the genre of carefully prepared improvisation "Musicology, or Homo Cantus: The Secret Drivers of Song", which took place on December 20, 2019 at the Dialog Hub in Kyiv.
