Boykov Vyacheslav Hryhorovych

1947-2012

Musician, pianist, teacher, Honored Artist of Ukraine, holder of the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation.

Biography.

Winner of two All-Ukrainian competitions (1964 and 1968). Graduated with honors from the Kyiv State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in the class of Prof. Vsevolod Topilin, and completed his assistantship (1970-1974) under the guidance of People's Artist of Russia Prof. Tatiana Kravchenko.

He trained at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory under People's Artist of Russia Professor Dmitry Bashkirov in 1981 and People's Artist of the USSR Professor Yevgeny Malinin in 1989.

Since 1991, he has been the Head of the Department of Special Piano, Professor at the Prokofiev Donetsk State Music Academy.

Since 1974, V. Boykov has trained more than 100 musicians, including well-known pianists and teachers in Ukraine. His students have won awards at national and international competitions (123 in total), 42 awards at performing competitions, including 8 First Prizes and Grand Prix at international competitions. Graduates of V.G. Boykov's class have successfully performed at competitions in Belgium, Belarus, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the USA, Ukraine, and France. Among the awards won by Prof. Boykov's students are victories at competitions under the auspices of the International Federation EMCI - "Ibla Ragusa Grand Prix" (Italy 1994 and 1995 - O. Skidan), Grand Prix of the Caroline Elizabeth Reilly Memorial Cup (Ireland, Dublin 1995, O. Skidan), 1st prize of the V Competition in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz (Kyiv, 2003, D. Pysarenko).

Tatiana Ursova, a graduate of Professor Boykov's class, won a prestigious international scholarship from the Marusya Yavorska Foundation (Canada). T. Ursova brilliantly completed her postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London and defended her doctoral dissertation at the Royal University of London. She teaches at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Creative works

Collections of piano works by Brahms, Wagner, Weber, Lyadov and Khachaturian have been published under the editorship of V. Boykov.

In addition to Ukraine, he has performed as a pianist in Slovakia, Germany, Russia, and Norway, and has recorded on Ukrainian radio and television.

V. Boykov is a member of the National All-Ukrainian Music Union and the head of the Donbas Piano Teachers Association.

Since 1991, he has been the artistic director of the Competition of Young Pianists in the Homeland of Sergei Prokofiev, created by the Association of Pianists and Teachers of Donbas with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. Since 1999, this competition has gained international status and is held every odd year.
