Composer, teacher, pianist; brother of Stanislav and Felix Blumenfeld. Brother of the composers Felix and Stanislav Blumenfeld, uncle of the composer K. Shymanovskyi.
Sigismund Mykhailovych Blumenfeld was born in 1852 in the village of Verkhnyachka (now in Cherkasy region) to a Jewish family of a music and French teacher.
He was engaged in concert activities; he was the author of piano works, romances, and songs. In the 1890s, he gave concerts in Kyiv as an accompanist. In 1918-1920, he worked as a curator of the M. Glinka Museum at the Petrograd Conservatory.
