Bloschychak Myron

1962

Myron Bloschychak (born 8 February 1962, Pidbirtsi) is an Honoured Artist of Ukraine, winner of international awards. In the music world, he is known as a maestro of the air, a legend of Ukrainian folklore, a man-orchestra, a virtuoso musician, an author and performer of various genres of music, and a researcher of ancient Ukrainian wind instruments.
Myron Bloshchychak was born on 8 February 1962 in the suburbs of Lviv.

He studied at the Lviv Music College named after S. Liudkevych and the Lviv Conservatory.

From 1980 to 1985, he played in the BARVINOK ensemble under the direction of Ivan Agratina.

1985-1987 - folk music ensemble "Drymba", Lviv Philharmonic.

1987-1990 - soloist-instrumentalist of the popular Kyiv ensemble "Kobza".

Since 1990, Myron Bloshchychak has been constantly touring, participating in folk and jazz festivals in Ukraine and abroad. He has conducted many expeditions, spent a lot of time with musicians and folk artists, explored, recorded and studied the magical music of the Carpathians.

Creative activity
Nowadays, those who have seen him perform at least once only want to know the date and venue of his next concert. The artist has earned the sincere love of millions of fans in Ukraine and abroad for his desire to restore the almost lost folk art of our ancestors, his impeccable professional skills and unique stage image.

The uniqueness of this extraordinary man lies not only in the fact that he is fluent in about 20 traditional musical instruments. Among them: accordion, his favourite since childhood; classical instruments - clarinet, which he studied at the music school and Lviv Conservatory, and saxophone; ancient instruments - calf, drymba, flute, Pan flute, cuckoo, goat, dvidentsivka, wheeled lyre and other instruments little known even to professional musicians, as well as neoclassical instruments, created by Myron himself - windpipe, hose pipe, bottle pipe... The list is endless, because any household object that has a cavity, an oblong shape and at least one hole sounds in his hands.

Every concert of Myron Bloschychak is a creative triumph and a fascinating show.

When he was on tour in the USA, at one of the parties, there was no instrument at hand, so Myron played a Ukrainian song... on a plastic water bottle. Witnesses were stunned.

Even the professionals were surprised: "How can you perform Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee on a water bottle?" And the members of the Brass Quintet from England were simply speechless when the musician took the trumpet of a professor at the London Conservatoire, pulled out the mouthpiece and crown, and began to play Hutsul melodies. "Barvinok, Medicus, Vatra, Kobza, Vysokyi Zamok and other famous bands.
Since 1989, Myron Bloschychak has been touring and participating in international folk and jazz festivals.

In 1999, he was recognised as "The Best Musician of the Year" of Lviv.

Myron Bloshchychak's creative work includes three compact discs: "Wind of Love", "Wind from Ukraine", "Christmas Dreams" and an audio recording of music on glass instruments made for Myron by the famous glass artist Andriy Bokotey.

He is the founder of the Molfar Charitable Foundation and the Museum of Ancient Musical Instruments. Married, father of three children.

Solo on TWO saxophones at the same time, Chardash Monti on TWO sopranos and incredible modern and ancient musical instruments enchant the audience. The maestro has recorded 4 CDs: "Wind of Love", "Christmas Dreams", "Wind from Ukraine" and "Night Melody", as well as a DVD disc "MAN ORCHESTRA" containing excerpts from concerts, music films and video clips. He plays classical, folk and jazz music.

He speaks English, French, German and Polish. Myron owns about 20 traditional instruments. He makes his own instruments.

Instrument
Musical instruments that sound in a concert show: nai (Pan's flute), telenka, floyara, flutes, dvidentsivka, cuckoos and ocarina, saxophones (soprano, alto, baritone), clarinet, drymba, wheeled lyre, accordion, hornpipe, bottlepipe, corkpipe, corkpipe, diving tube, as well as the author's windpipe, windpipe, Myron's floyara and quadruphone. Myron Bloshchychak collects and revives ancient instruments.

He makes most of the instruments himself. He studies and uses Ukrainian, Armenian, Bulgarian, Chinese musical instruments, etc.

"I always have some ideas. That's why I don't sleep. First, I make the instrument in plastic. And then I make a wooden one. I burn the sound holes with red-hot iron,
just like our ancestors used to do.

Touring.
Myron Bloszczychak has toured the United States of America five times, and has given dozens of concerts in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia.

Teaching career
He taught at the Lviv Conservatoire for five years. In 1993, he taught at the Music and Arts Centre at the University of Bridgeport in the USA.

Family.
He is married and has three children. Sons - Liubomyr and Markian, daughter Ivanna-Sophia.

Myron's grandfather, Ivan Bloshchychak, came from Lemkivshchyna. He played the violin, called husli in Lemkivshchyna. He was the first violinist. My father sings beautifully. His mother Ivanna comes from the Dolnytskyi family.
