Bankevych Vikentiy

1830-1861

Vikentiy (Vincent) Bankevych (b. c. 1830 - d. 1861, Zhytomyr) was a nineteenth-century Ukrainian violinist, composer, conductor, and teacher.

Biography.
He was born around 1830. He studied violin in Vilna and privately in St. Petersburg with Oleksiy Lviv.

As a violinist, he toured Kyiv, St. Petersburg, Vilna, and Königsberg. In the last years of his life, he headed the orchestra of the Zhytomyr Theater and founded a music school in the village of Zarubyntsi, where he taught.

He was the author of works for violin, fantasies on Ukrainian themes, rondos, concertos, and more.

He died in Zhytomyr in 1861.
