Mykola Balema (born 1 May 1948, Zhylintsy, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian conductor, People's Artist of Ukraine (1988). He was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples in 1987, the Order of Merit, 3rd Class, in 1999, the Order of Merit, 2nd Class, in 2008, and the Certificate of Honour of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 2005. Since 2000, he has been a professor at the Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian and Pedagogical Institute. Among his works: the song "There is no translation for the Cossack family" (based on the poems by P. Karas and M. Vonio).
Born in the village of Zhylintsy, Yarmolynets district, Khmelnytskyi region. He graduated from the Ural Conservatory in 1972. He also studied at the Khmelnytskyi Music School named after V. Zaremba at the Department of Folk Instruments in the class of teacher Ilya Korobov. Under the direction of Mykola Balema, the ensemble won a diploma at the XII World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow. In 2007, he became a diploma winner at the II Pavlo Virsky World Festival-Competition of Folk Choreography in Kyiv.
Since 1972, he has been the artistic director and chief conductor of the Cossacks of Podillia Song and Dance Ensemble of the Khmelnytsky Regional Philharmonic. In 2003, he was awarded the Taras Shevchenko Regional Prize. The "Kozaky Podillia" collective was awarded the title of academic. In 1986, he became People's Artist of Ukraine. In 1999, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the President of Ukraine III degree. In 2009, he received the Order of Merit II degree. In 2005, he received a Certificate of Honour from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
In 1979, Mykola Balema was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine. In 1987, he was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples.
