Balanko Mykola Yakovych

1956

Outstanding Ukrainian trumpeter, teacher, Honored Artist of Ukraine. Soloist of the Taras Shevchenko National Opera of Ukraine Symphony Orchestra, professor of trumpet at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine and the R. M. Glier Kyiv Institute of Music.
Biography.

He was born on April 18, 1956 in the village of Luka-Barska, Barskyi district, Vinnytsia region. He studied at the Vinnytsia State Music College named after M. Leontovych (class of V. Derbinyov and A. Tarashchenko - 1971-1975) and the Odesa State Conservatory named after A. Nezhdanova (class of Professor V. Lub - 1976-1980).

During his studies, he worked as a soloist of the symphony orchestras of the Odesa State Philharmonic and the Odesa State Opera and Ballet Theater. He was engaged in teaching at the A. Nezhdanova Odesa State Conservatory (1980-1983).

In 1982, following a competition, he was hired as a soloist of the Taras Shevchenko National Opera of Ukraine Symphony Orchestra. Since 1990, he has been teaching trumpet at the Tchaikovsky Kyiv Conservatory (now the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine).

As a solo performer, he toured various cities of Ukraine, Germany and Japan, collaborated with the Kyiv Soloists Chamber Orchestra under the direction of People's Artist of Ukraine Borys Kotorovych. He was engaged in ensemble activities in brass quintets, in particular, in the brass quintet "Ukraine" (1995-1996). M. Balanko has recordings on Ukrainian radio and television.

M.Y. Balanko's creative cooperation is connected with such famous conductors as S. Turchak, V. Spivakov, V. Kozhukhar, R. Kofman, G. Rozhdestvensky, O. Ryabov, V. Sinaisky, O. Tontakishvili, I. Gamkalo, V. Fedoseev, etc.

His bright performing style has been repeatedly praised by the masters of the stage - E. Hillels, V. Spivakov, S. Turchak, O. Ryabov, L. Venediktov, V. Antonov, B. Kotorovych, etc. M.Y. Balanko is fluent in a wide range, timbral variety, and subtle dynamic gradations of the instrument's sound. His performing style is characterized by politeness, virtuoso technique and a deep understanding of the interpreted work.

M.Y. Balanko successfully implements his own performing achievements in pedagogical practice. His students, postgraduates and graduates - Y. Kuzmenko, K. Posvaliuk, R. Oleksienko, O. Shevchuk, V. Snitsarenko, V. Stepin, K. Hrechanivskyi, I. Martyniuk, E. Horeslavskyi, I. Bachynskyi, O. Baklazhenko, D. Melnychuk, S. Nemertsev, Liu Oumen, Y. Nyshchota, Y. Nyshchota, O. Litvinov, S. Yevdokymova, O. Burak are laureates and winners of international and national competitions and festivals. E. Khomenko, V. Stepin, and O. Burak continued their studies in Europe (Germany).

Graduates have been employed by leading artistic ensembles of Ukraine, such as the Taras Shevchenko National Opera of Ukraine, the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, the H. Veriovka National Choir Orchestra, the National Presidential, National Wind and State Pop and Symphony Orchestras, the Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theater for Children and Youth, the Dnipro Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, and orchestras in Germany and China. M. Balanko's pedagogical principles are also embodied in the teaching field by his students - at the Kyiv Children's Academy of Arts, Mykola Lysenko Kyiv Music School, Mykola Lysenko Poltava Music School, and S. Krushelnytska Ternopil Music School.

M.Y. Balanko actively works in the field of music research and methodology. He was repeatedly invited as a chairman and member of the jury at international music competitions and festivals. He regularly conducts master classes in music schools of Ukraine. In his pedagogical activity, he pays special attention to popularizing the works of Ukrainian composers - V. Runchak, L. Kolodub, Zh.

Skillfully combining the traditions of Ukrainian and European performing trumpet art in his own performance, M. Balanko formed his own performing school during his teaching career, as evidenced by the galaxy of young trumpet players who are graduates of his class.
