Rostyslav Oleksiyovych Babych (born 17 April 1937, Rivne - 13 February 2021) was a Ukrainian conductor and teacher. Laureate of the Republican Komsomol Prize named after N. Ostrovsky (1986). People's Artist of Ukraine (1988).
In 1962-1966, he was a teacher at the S. Krushelnytska Ternopil Music College. Since 1966, he has been the chief conductor of the Ukrainian National Ballet on Ice, and later the Kyiv Music Hall Variety and Symphony Orchestra and the Kyiv Variety and Symphony Orchestra of the National Radio of Ukraine.
During his years as chief conductor of Ukrainian radio, Rostyslav Babych recorded hundreds of musical works by prominent Ukrainian and world composers for the radio fund. He actively promoted the work of young composers and engaged young singers such as Mykola Hnatyuk, Vasyl Bokoch, Alla Kudlay, Viktor Shportko and others in cooperation.
Under Babych's leadership, the orchestra actively conducted concerts both in Ukraine and within the USSR, promoting the best works of our time.
Since 1988, he has been the Head of the Department of Pop Music, Professor at the Kyiv University of Culture and Arts.
