Aleksandr Aleksandrov (b. 27 June 1927, Yalta - d. 19 August 2004, Tambov) was a Ukrainian and Russian pianist and teacher. Honoured Artist of Russia (1994).
Biography.
Graduated from the Odesa Conservatory (piano class of M. Rybytska, 1944-1949; Faculty of History and Theory, 1947-1950).
1950-1953 - studied at the Faculty of Symphonic Conducting of the Kyiv Conservatory (class of O. Klymov).
1951-1978 (with a break) - lecturer at the Kyiv Conservatory, Head of the Department of Special Piano. Since 1966 - associate professor.
From 1978-1997 he worked at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow (since 1983 - Head of the Department of Special Piano).
For some time (1967-1971), he taught at the Gorky Conservatory, and worked as a visiting professor at the Felix Mendelssohn Higher School of Music and Theatre in Leipzig.
Until 2002, he was head of the piano department at the Rachmaninoff Tambov Music and Pedagogical Institute.
As a pianist, he performed in a duet with Aza Roshchina.
He was the first editor and performer of L. Revutsky's Piano Concerto. He is the author of piano transcriptions of Rachmaninoff's romances and Debussy's Nocturnes for two pianos.
Among his students were L. Deordieva, T. Roshchyna, V. Klin, Y. Beilin, R. Holubeva, O. Liforenko, Y. Lotakov, O. Maksymov, V. Novikov, O. Poliansky, O. Rapita, S. Skrynchenko, V. Sahadaychnyi, and N. Tolpyho-Rusina.
He passed away in Tambov on 19 August 2004. He was buried in Moscow at the Vostryakovsky cemetery.
