Peter Herman Adler (2 December 1899, Jablonec nad Nisou, now Czech Republic - 2 October 1990, Ridgefield, USA) was a German conductor and teacher.
Biography.
Graduated from the German Music Academy in Prague (1924). He studied with Vitezslav Novak and Alexander von Zemlinsky. Since 1927, he has been conducting opera houses in Czechoslovakia and Germany. Head of conducting classes at the Kharkiv Music and Drama Institute (1932-1934). Chief conductor of the Kharkiv Symphony Orchestra (Ukrfil) and the Ukrainian Radio Orchestra in Kyiv.
He performed works by Ukrainian composers, including Mykhailo Kolachevsky's Ukrainian Symphony, was the first performer of Borys Liatoshynsky's Second Symphony and Lev Revutsky's Second Piano Concerto (1936).
He taught at higher conducting courses in Kharkiv. Among his students were Nathan Rakhlin, Veniamin Tolba, Dmytro Klebanov, and others.
Since 1939, he has worked as an opera and symphony conductor abroad, and since 1942 - in the United States.
