Stepan Tymofiiovych Abbakumov (born 23 November (5 December) 1870, Kyiv - 1919, ibid.) was a Ukrainian conductor, composer, and teacher.
Biography.
Graduated from the Kyiv Music School in 1890 (piano class of H. Khodorovsky-Moroz and M. Listovnychyi, cello class of F. Muhlert), and from the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1898 (composition class of M. Solovyov).
While studying at the conservatory, he conducted performances of the Ukrainian drama group. In 1903, he studied with A. Nikisch in Leipzig. In 1904-1905, he was the conductor of the Pavlovsky and in 1907 the Yalta Symphony Orchestras.
In 1913 he moved to Kyiv, conducting symphony concerts of the Kyiv branch of the Moscow Art Theatre and summer concerts in the Merchant's Garden. From 1916 he was the conductor of the Kyiv Mobile Opera House, and from 1918 - of the Union of Orchestras Symphony Orchestra (from 1919 - named after Mykola Lysenko).
He is the author of symphonic and violin works, choruses, romances, as well as music theoretical works.
